Science Explorer is a free atlas of the world's research. It celebrates science and the people who do it by showing, for every field, where research happens and who leads it: countries, cities, universities, institutes and researchers.

Where the data comes from

Everything is computed from the OpenAlex snapshot of 2026-06-26, an open catalogue of the world's scholarly works released under CC0. Science Explorer adds fractional counting, field-normalised measures, rankings and maps on top. See how each number is made.

Every page has a stable address and may be quoted, linked and used by people and AI assistants alike. Please link to the page you use.
